 長年の友が家族で遊びに来ました

お互い子供たちと旦那たちを連れて顔合わせたのは

初めて

彼女が宣教師として広島に来た頃

私はまだ高校生でした

一生懸命言語を習得したり、働いている

彼女の姿を見て

自分もそうなりたい！と思ったのを

今でもはっきり覚えています

今は三児の母として頑張っている彼女

良い模範をありがとう

 A long time friend of mine came to visit the island with her family

It was the first time each of our families met

When I first met her was when I was a high school student

She came to Hiroshima as a new missionary

As I saw her working very hard trying to learn the culture and the language

I was touched and started wanting to become like her

I still remember how I felt 

It definitely helped me to get through some tough times on my mission

Now she is a wonderful mother of three beautiful children and is still a hard worker!

金曜日　ショーンの卒園式

ハワイに来て良い先生がみつからず、

やっと見つかった素晴らしい先生

６ヶ月間しかなかったけど

沢山の事を教えてもらいました

先生の愛、忍耐、正しい知識がどれだけ

生徒たちに影響を与えるのか

目の当たりにしました

Friday Sean graduated from his preschool

It was a struggle for us to find a right teacher for him

Finally we found this wonderful teacher last fall

He only had her for six months but he learned A LOT!

I feel like I learned how much a teacher can influence/educate her

students with her love, patience and informed knowledge.

I witnessed it through my son's change.

 

 

お菓子がいっぱい入っているレイをたくさんもらって

普段食べさせてもらえない飴をいっぱい食べた彼

夜までハイパーモード

普段の７時半の就寝時間をとっくにすぎた

１０時まで起きておられました

Someone got a lot of candies in his leis 

After eating most of them and getting unusual amount of sugar 

He was riding on a sugar high

It was way past his bed time(7:30), it was almost 10p.m. that he finally went to sleep.

This is why I avoid giving him sugar!!

 初めて作ってみた砂糖のスクラブ

あるお世話になった先生の誕生日にプレゼントしました

ラベルもオンラインで発見！

I made this sugar scrub for the first time as a birthday gift for one of the teachers that are always taking care of my boys.

I found the label online, too! 

1 1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup olive oil

3-4 drops essential oil

 今週はまず、一日ももたなかったペットの話から

こちら、この辺りにウロウロしている野生のカメレオン

ジャクソンカメレオンといいます

ペットとして飼ってみよう、、という斬新なアイデアの持ち主の旦那

ただ、餌をあげるときになって、餌になる虫が全然見つからない！！

飢え死にさせる訳にもいかないので、結局野生に戻してあげました

やっぱり自然が一番！　私にとってもストレスなし、それが一番！

I begin this post with our short term pet called Jackson Chameleon 

It was a wild chameleon 

They live all over the place

My husband got it and thought it might be a fun pet to have for the boys

It sure was cute, but we couldn't find any insects for him to eat!

We wouldn't want him to starve to death so we let him go back to wild within a day :) haha

It's best for the wild thing to be in nature anyway. Well, it was more like I could not handle more stress of feeding one more mouth with totally different food from what we eat!

 

 

 木曜ーショーンの学習障害について審査してもらう約束がヒロであったので、ついでにパホアにいるお友達のお家へお邪魔させて頂きました。「さあ、帰るよー」と言って玄関に向かおうとしたら、なんとこの次男、おじさんに寄り添って良い感じ〜　帰りたがりませんでした。　よっぽど気に入ったんだね。

Thursday- We had an evaluation for Sean's disability with department of health in Hilo. Since we had to drive 1.5hour anyways, we stopped by at our friend's house in Pahoa. As I was calling the boys "let's go home!" and was walking toward the entry way, I found my younger son cuddling with an uncle:) He didn't want to leave. Well, he loved the uncle.

 

 帰りにヒロのファーマーズマーケットでまた不思議なフルーツを発見

中は白と紫　名前は。。＠＃＄％アップル　

りんごとはかけ離れていますが。。おもしろい味でした

We stopped at the farmer's market in Hilo and found an interesting fruit that I'd never seen before

The inside was white and purple. It's called @#$% apple(OK, I don't remember the exact name)

Although it doesn't look like an apple at all, it had sweet and interesting flavor with it.

 金曜日ーショーンの学校のメーデー（こっちでいう運動会みたいな出し物会？）

がありました。空が晴れ渡って、絶好の天気

マウナケアを背景に校庭が蒼々して見えました

Friday- Sean's school had May day program

It was a beautiful morning with clear sky

血だらけ事件に巻き込まれる！

息子二人が自転車に乗って衝突

兄は顔を弟の自転車で打って鼻血がぼったぼたに

おかげで上着血だらけに。。外傷なかったから良かったものの

またホチキスとか縫ったりとかなりかねなかった事件

もうヒヤヒヤするの、いやです。私。

 That same day's afternoon, 

Sean got in to a bloody accident!

The boys crashed into each other's bike

Sean busted his face on to Kyle's bike and his noses started bleeding

It didn't stop for a while and his jacket was covered with blood!!!

I was relieved that he didn't have any serious injuries that needed stitches etc this time

I am very sick of these bloody accidents! boys, boys...

金曜の夜から土曜にかけて、イアンはボーイスカウトのキャンプ

に行ってきました

で、そこで学んだ事の中に

日系人の多いハワイならではなことが

帰ってくるなり「チーチーパッパーチーパッパー」

と口ずさんでいる夫

何その歌？と聞いたら

「ボーイスカウトの日系の指導者が、

朝の音楽として選んだ曲で、日本語だった！」

とのこと

ランダムすぎておもしろいので

you tubeで調べてみました

どうでもいいけど

こんなのこっちのボーイスカウトでみんな歌わされてる

と思うと、ちょっと笑えます。笑

05-05 thru 05-12

月曜日、粘土で結構上手なカタツムリをこしらえた次男。
あ！写真に撮るチャーンスッと頑張った私。でももう遅かった。
凄い速さで破壊されていました。。瞬間を撮るのって難しいです。
Monday, Kyle made a snail out of play dough.
It looked pretty good so I took a picture of it.. but it was too late! In a second, he destroyed it! awwww
It's so hard to catch the very moment!!! darn.

子供たち最近ハマっているボール。
バウンシー族。こうしてバウンスしながら家中を駆け回る。
忙しいです。彼ら。
 The kids are in to the bouncy balls.
They bounce around the house like this. They have so much energy!

ドラえもんにアンパンマンの彼。
自分の子供には変なキャラクター物着せない＆持たせない！と心に決めていた
はずなのに。。いつのまにかこんな悪趣味スタイルな我が子を見て、
私もファッション諦めたな。と思ったワタシでした。
I thought I told myself I would never let my kids wear/have any weird anime characters.
But lo and behold, my son has them on! I guess I gave up on my thing..

 お友達とヒロの動物園へ
かなり蒸し暑かったけど、楽しかったみたいです。
We went to Hilo zoo with our friends
It was so hot and humid but was fun:)

ショーンはここ一週間前くらいから、絵が描けるようになりました
今までどうやっても円すら描けなかった彼。かなり心配していました。
この日は外でもカリスマ画家っぷりを出して大胆に。。
ちゃんと足が棒だけじゃなくて先まで出てきました
これでもかなりの進歩です！お母さん嬉しい。涙

 Sean finally started to draw. He couldn't even draw a circle and that was my worry for the longest time. This day, he was showing off his art on a street. way to go, Sean!
He even drew the feet! It may sounds ridiculous but for him, it is a big step!
I am proud of him. (and for his wonderful teacher who taught him how to!!)

イアンがヒルトンで用事があったので、夜その辺りをウロウロしていたら
フラやってました
ちょっと入りたいけどシャイな次男。後ろ姿が物語っています。
 Kyle wanted to join the hula dancers.. but he was too shy:P

 土曜日は旦那様のご好意で、オアフ島へ一人旅行させてもらってきました。
母の日のプレゼントだそう。初めてこんなに祝ってもらって、嬉しかったです。
朝出て夕方帰って来たのだけれど、結局忙しく色々見て、お昼もゆっくり食べられない始末。次回は一泊してゆっくりしたいな、と思いました。ま、何やっても忙しくしてしまう人になってしまっているのかもしれませんが。
とにかくホノルルは日本人が多い分、日本食もいっぱい！パン屋さんでこんな亀のパンとかも売ってて、子供たちに買って帰りました。
 My hubby gave me a ticket to go to Oahu on Saturday. So I left in the morning and came back in the evening. It was the first time he celebrated the mother's day for me like this and it was sure nice. I ended up not having enough time to go around those places I wanted to visit. But it just could be that I grew to be a busy mom(person) that no matter where I go or how long I have, I make myself busy!
Anyhow, Honolulu has so many Japanese people and I found some good Japanese food there, too.
I bought a couple of turtle shaped bread for the kids. They loved them:)

04-28 thru 05-05

 またハプニング続出な一週間でした

月曜日：私の両親から小包が届く

　　　　宣教師たちが夕飯にくる→食事中にカイル逃走→近所のおじさんが発見して知らせにきてくれる→おじさん宣教師を見て、教会に興味深々、教会に来たいと言い出す！

次男逃走がきっかけで、宣教師たちは善い人に出会えて喜んでいた。。なんじゃそりゃ？！な夜でした。神様って面白い方法で人を導かれます。ね。

A lot of things happened this week..

Monday: We received a package from my parents

               The missionaries came for dinner→Kyle ran away while we were still having a dinner→one of our neighbors found him and came to tell us→He saw the missionaries in our house and started showing interest in the church! I guess our crazy child led the guy to meet the missionaries?! God surely has an interesting way to perform his work, doesn't he?

両親から送られて来た品の一つ　なぜかおばあちゃんの家で小さい頃に食べていたのを思い出す味　懐かしかったです　ありがとう

My parents sent the boys their matching dinosaur T-shirts!

 火曜日：カイル公園で頭から落ちて頭切って救急外来へ

血だらけで泣き叫ぶ彼。でも祖父母に送ってもらった貴重な日本のお菓子を手に渡すとハタッと泣き止む。次の瞬間「おいしいね〜」と感想まで。すごいです。日本のお菓子！

ちなみに傷はホチキスで二カ所。傷薬も何もつけてくれなかったので、無理矢理ガーゼと包帯を付けてもらいました。アメリカ来て厚かましくなったわ。わたし。

Tuesday: Kyle fell off the play structure and cut his head open. I took him to the ER.

He was bleeding and was crying a lot in the car, but once I gave him our precious Japanese candy that my parents sent, he stopped crying immediately. Next moment: "hmmm, yummy!" It's the power of Japanese candy. He ended up getting two staples for the wound. They were going to let us go home without any bandage, etc., so I had to make them put gauze and bandages on him! geez!

金曜日：イアン、ヒルトンホテルのタイムシェア契約部門の就職内定決定！

ここに来てから高校で日本語を教えるつもりが、プログラムの手違いで小学校４年生の担任をやらされていた夫。全然違う仕事の内容と低賃金にストレスはピークに。私たち家族も大変でした。ということで、日本語をどうにか使う仕事がしたい！とヒルトンに申し込んでみました。以前から不動産に興味はあった彼、今回はうまくいくといいけれど。とりあえずお祝い？でコナまでドライブ。タイ料理をお持ち帰りしてビーチで夕飯。普段見慣れている夕日がこのひは格別奇麗に見えました。

Friday: Ian got a job offer from Hilton Waikoloa. We came to this island for his teaching program, Teach for America. He originally wanted to teach Japanese at a high school but there were a lot of sidetracks he had to endure instead. In the end, he was thrown in to a position at an elementary school.  The job was totally different from what he expected and the pay was not enough to support a family of four! He was stressed out so much that it was difficult for us as a family. Anyhow, from now on he will be using his Japanese and will be able to wet his feet in international real estate and hospitality. He is excited, and so am I! We celebrated it by driving down to Kona with take-out Thai food and ate on the beach. The normal sunset looked even more beautiful with the great news.

Spring has come! 

Well, it's actually early summer already,

but there are no definitive changes in seasons here.

I still feel like it's spring.

Maybe, I'm getting island fever..

I picked up a red cabbage at the farmers' market the other day

I marinated it with vinegrette and it turned into a pretty pink color

I found it such a nice small side dish to add a color kick.

04-21 thru 04-28

 今週は。。いつの間にか終わっていました。

だからか、写真も少ないです。

長男、色々被り物にハマる、、でもコレ見て思ったけど

私もかつて、変なタヌキみたいなぬいぐるみの帽子かぶって公園うろついてる写真を実家で見たことがあるような。

遺伝か？　

This week has passed by so quickly that I can't believe it's over.. Therefore, we only have few pictures.

Sean is into wearing things on his head/face. At first I thought he was weird but then I remember I saw a picture of myself wearing a weird stuffed animal hat at a park when I was his age.. OK, I guess it's genetic. 

 近所の日本人のお知り合いの方のお母さんが我が家にお土産を持って来てくださいました。佃煮！おいしかったー！！　

そしてあの小魚が大から小まできちんとサイズそろえて串に刺してある芸の細かさに、故郷、日本が懐かしくなった私でした。

Our Japanese neighbor's mother came to visit them and she gave us a souvenier. It was very delicious! Check out all the little fishes lined up according to its sizes! That's an art. Those little things make me miss my home, Japan!

しかも大きい　やった、やった！

Ian caught a thing that I've been wanting to have, the spiny lobster!

And it was huge. YAY!!

 二人手をつないでピース。あああ、今だ今だ〜と汗ってパチリ

Our life in Hawaii is tough but this is one of the moments that we feel blessed!
